With the return of Arcane to its second season I was reminded of what an incredible piece of art it is.
The second season still holds up pretty well, which is a rare follow up to such a well crafted first season.
And obviously, if you are a fan, you know that every single episode has a musical moment that is exquisitely designed to complement a climatic point in the story. From Stromae, Woodkid, Mike Shinoda and Sting, to newer voices introduced on the second season like Ramsey, the cast is stellar.
"Guns for Hire" by Woodkid was probably the most poignant moment from the first season. I still get chills thinking of the climax of the song.
"Goodbye" by Ramsey is a stunning track. Sort of a mix of cinematic mood with EDM stylistic tropes.
The rare appearance of Sting these days is also beautiful, "What Could Have Been".
But the crown jewel this second season was Stromae's "Ma Meilleure Ennemie". When you combine the story of what could have been with the lyrics (which I had to translate) it is devastating.
Even if this kind of animation is not your thing, go check out the music, it's all really well conceived, most of it co-composed or produced by Alex Seaver who also scored the show.
